Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside wakes.

Most of us do not like to look inside ourselves for the same reason we don't like to open a letter that has bad news.

It is as hard to see one's self as to look backwards without turning round.

There comes a time in each life like a point of fulcrum. At that time you must accept yourself. It is not any more what you will become. It is what you are and always will be.

I think somehow, we learn who we really are and then live with that decision.

How shall I grasp it? Do not grasp it. That which remains when there is no more grasping is the Self.

The majority of people are subjective toward themselves and objective toward all others, terribly objective sometimes, but the real task is, in fact, to be objective toward oneself and subjective toward all others.

Know thyself? If I knew myself, I'd run away.

And this is the simple truth: that to live is to feel oneself lost. He who accepts it has already begun to find himself, to be on firm ground.

'Know thyself' - a maxim as pernicious as it is odious. A person who observes himself arrests his own development. A caterpillar that tried to 'know itself' would never become a butterfly.
